Graham-Nichols-Ottawa-Psychotherapist

When working with clients, my foremost priority is to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space in which to discuss your goals and concerns. From that foundation, I am most likely to draw on elements of  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy,  Mindfulness, and  Brief and Solution Focused Therapy in order to help you develop the practical tools and insights you will need to realize your hopes for a better future. My particular areas of expertise include the treatment of stress, depression, anxiety, and grief, as well as relationship counselling, personal growth and development, life transition, and work/life balance. Whether you are looking for support as an individual, a couple, or a family, I can help you to take your next step forward.

In terms of experience, I have been providing counselling and psychotherapy in various capacities since 2004, and entered private practice in 2012. I have been a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario since its inception in 2015, and am also a Certified Canadian Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. In addition, I am an active member of the American Psychological Association’s Society for Environmental, Population, and Conservation Psychology.

My educational background includes a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology, advanced training in Brief and Solution Focused Therapy, and further coursework in Couple and Family Therapy. I also hold Bachelors degrees in Environmental Engineering and Education.

Prior to earning my Masters degree, I led wilderness leadership and self-growth expeditions throughout northern Canada. Over the course of many hundreds of days spent with groups in the outdoors, I gained a deep understanding and appreciation for the relationship between environment (particularly nature) and well-being. These relationships, as well as other aspects of Environmental Psychology remain a central interest of mine, and they continue to inform my work with clients today. If these perspectives feel as though they might resonate with you, we could weave them into our work together too.
